Hawkeyes and Illini to Faceoff in Elite Eight; Cyclones Look to Advance

The Illini are still fighting, and moving on to the Elite Eight.  Last night, the number three-seed Illinois beat the two-seed Houston, in Houston, 65-55, to advance.  This is the second Elite Eight appearance for the Illini in the past three years under head coach Brad Underwood.  They will face Iowa in a Big Ten showdown on Saturday.   

Cinderella is still dancing after number nine Iowa beat number four Nebraska 77-71 in the Sweet 16 from Houston.  Bennett Stirtz led the Hawkeyes in scoring with 20 points.  Tate Sage added 19 points and eight rebounds off the bench.  Iowa will now face three-seed Illinois in the Elite Eight with a trip to the Final Four on the line tomorrow.

The two-seed Iowa State Cyclones will try to keep their title hopes alive with then take on six-seed Tennessee in the Sweet 16 at United Center tonight.  The Cyclones beat seven-seed Kentucky 82-63 in the Second Round last weekend.  Iowa State hasn’t been to the Elite Eight since 2000.  Tonight’s game tips off at 9:10PM.
