Lois M. Hendricks, 96, of Galesburg, Illinois, passed away peacefully at the Hawthorne Inn on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Lois was born on October 15, 1929, in Altona, Illinois, the daughter of Arthur and Gladys (Larson) Hopkins. She graduated from Altona High School in 1947 and later attended Browns Business College. Lois began her career as a secretary for Bixby-Zimmer, where she was known for her dedication and strong work ethic.
On July 11, 1954, Lois married Raymond A. Hendricks, in Altona. Together they built a life centered on family and hard work, raising four children: Susan, Patricia, Andrew and Thomas. Lois worked alongside Ray as the office manager of the family business, Hendricks Pump Service, playing an integral role in its success. They shared 63 wonderful years of marriage before Ray preceded her in death on November 2, 2017.
Lois will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her children: Patty Hendricks of Nashville, Tennessee, Andy (Tammy) Hendricks, Tom (Paula) Hendricks, both of Galesburg; Jerry Hendricks of Brownstown, Michigan whom she raised as her own; her son-in-law, Chris Schroeder of Bolingbrook, Illinois; as well as eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense pride and joy. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray; and her daughter, Susie.
A woman of strong faith, Lois was a devoted member of First Lutheran Church, where she was active in WELCA and the Deborah Circle. She also enjoyed her time as a member of Lake Bracken Country Club, forming many lasting friendships over the years.
Visitation will be held at First Lutheran Church from 11:00-1:00 pm Saturday, April 4, 2026, followed by a Memorial Service at the church at 1:00 pm. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church.
