Kid's Health Event Joins Forces with Relay for Life

Share

The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life is scheduled for June 2nd at Sunnylane Field. This year, OSF Healthcare will hold a kid’s health and safety event in conjunction with the Relay. Jadyn Dwyer, Administrative Assistant for OSF, previews the event:

“Kids will actually be able to get up close to the ambulance and talk to the medical staff there. The Monmouth Fire Department will be there with a fire engine, again, just giving the kids a chance to get up and talk to them and learn from them,” Dwyer stated.

The Children’s Hospital of Illinois and American Cancer Society will be in attendance presenting on healthy eating and how to protect kids from UV rays, respectively. The actual Relay itself will be from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., but the kid’s health and safety education event is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Dwyer thinks adding the kids into the equation will bring more people together for this commendable cause.

“The idea of Relay is to come together and raise money to fight cancer and provide services to cancer survivors and their families. The Relay brings all these people together to do that, and their goal is to have fun while doing so. The kid’s event is definitely a way to have fun, maybe incorporate some more families to come in and bring their children and have activities there for the kids,” she said.
