Here’s the WMOI/WRAM/WAIK Athletes of the Week for the week ending Oct 14th, 2018:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior boys soccer player, Robert Lian. Robert scored a hat-trick in a regional semi-final match against Kewanee. His 3 goals helped the Titans get to the regional championship match against Alleman. During that match, Robert scored the tying goal in an eventual Monmouth-Roseville shootout win.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is freshman volleyball player, Jenna Bentz. Jenna was the leading assist-maker in 6 of her team’s 7 matches last week. She capped the week off with handing out a total of 59 helpers in the Red Storm’s five matches at the Sherrard Invitational Tournament, in which United brought home a 2nd place plaque.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior volleyball player, Corinne Booton. Corinne’s well-rounded talent helped the Heat claim the Bushnell-Prairie City Invitational Tournament championship. Her play at the net, 49 kills and 11 blocks, and her hustle on the court, 26 digs, was enough for her to be named to the all-tournament team. She had 26 kills in two more wins earlier in the week.

The A-Town Tornado Athlete of the Week is junior volleyball player, Payton Florine. Payton has been a force at the net all season and that aggressiveness landed her on the all-tournament team at the Bushnell-Prairie City Invitational. She totaled 34 kills and three blocks in the Tornadoes five matches on the day. She also hustled her way to 49 digs and served for 19 points.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week, presented by Toyota, is senior girls cross country runner, Kaitlyn Pedergast. Kaitlyn ran her final Western Big Six Championship meet and placed 3rd overall individually. That placed her on the Western Big Six All-Conference team for the 4th straight season. In all four years, she placed in no less than the top-3 finishers.

Congrats to all of these student-athletes!! Thanks to our AOTW sponsors, MC Sport and More, McDonough Telephone Cooperative (mdtc), Tompkins State Bank and Galesburg Toyota!!
