Gerald B. Van Tine, age 103, of Gladstone, Illinois; passed away at
12:20 am on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab in
Stronghurst, Illinois. Gerald was born on November 24, 1915 in Monmouth,
Illinois and is the son of Truman L.and Cora P. (White) Van Tine. Gerald
was raised in rural Biggsville and attended local schools. After his
schooling, Gerald proudly served his Country with the United States
Army. Gerald was promoted to Staff Sargent during World War II in the
9th Infantry Division, 3rd Battalion, 184 Infantry Regiment. After his
service in the Army he attained his General Education Degree. Gerald
married Dorothy E. Galbraith on March 5, 1947 in the Biggsville United
Presbyterian Parsonage. She preceded him in death on October 27, 2008.
Gerald has been a lifetime grain and livestock farmer in Henderson
County. He also was employed fifteen years at the Weir Fruit Farm near
Biggsville, Illinois and also was a bookkeeper and parts man at
Davison’s Ford Garage in Stronghurst, Illinois for a number of years.
Gerald is a longtime member of Gladstone United Methodist Church. Gerald
is a founding member of the Biggsville American Legion and served on the
Henderson County Housing Authority. He was on the first Honor Flight out
of the Quad Cities locally. He enjoyed spending time with his family and
his grandchildren and has lived in his own home up until January of this
year. Surviving him are two sons, Roger Van Tine (Penny)  and Jerry Van
Tine, both of Gladstone, Illinois. Grandchildren Jessica Wandless
(Kevin) of Delphi, IN; Grant Van Tine (Nicole) of Davenport, IA; Rebecca
Van Tine of Gladstone, IL; and Shannon Van Tine of Geneseo, IL. Great
grandchildren survive, Luke and Joshua Wandless and Mia, Noah, and Eva
Van Tine. He is preceded in his death by his parents, wife, Dorothy, his
siblings, Eleanore Detrick, Edwin Van Tine, Nellie Grafton, Reah Carner,
Leah Van Tine, Roy Van Tine, Luther Van Tine, Robert Van Tine, Zelda
Maxine Van Tine, Josephine Paris, and Helen Van Tine, and one
great-granddaughter, Sophie Grace Van Tine.

A funeral service will be at 10:30 am on Monday, June 3, 2019 at the
Gladstone United Methodist Church in Gladstone, Illinois. His family
plans a visitation and will receive their friends from 9:30 am to 10:30
am prior to the funeral service. Burial with Military Honors will be in
the Biggsville Cemetery. Memorial funds have been established for either
the Gladstone United Methodist Church or The Wounded Warrior Project. To
