Local Hannam Trains Future Athletes

In this week’s Coach’s Corner, we spoke to Trey Hannam, a former local from Galva, Illinois. Trey is currently coaching baseball and softball players age 10 to 24 in Omaha, Nebraska, where he hosts his HLP High Level Development Camp for gifted athletes.

The camp hosts a variety of different opportunities, from working with professional hitting coaches, to personalized training for each athlete.

The camp boasts 85 athlete trainees from all walks of life, hand-picked from a group of 5000.

Hannam describes his technique of training different players:

“It just depends on the athlete. Younger, it’s usually easier to mold, because they have fewer reps to ingrain into their pattern, but older athletes, especially minor leaguers, typically they’re very close, they just need a couple tweaks or a couple cues to make them a little bit better.

We do a lot of different training because sometimes they need a little bit of over-exaggeration to actually feel something, so we’ll do something weird so they’ll feel something, then when they feel it, they’ll say ‘oh my god, you want to move in with me, let’s hit every night’.”

The program lasts 6 hours a day, and includes lunch and transportation.
