Carl Sandburg College’s Corporate and Leisure College is offering an English as a Second Language (ESL) course during the 2020 spring semester.

The class will meet from 6-7:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays from Feb. 3-May 20 on Sandburg’s Main Campus in Galesburg, 2400 Tom L. Wilson Blvd. This is a beginning/intermediate-level course for adults whose native language is not English.

Students will be given instruction and practice in speaking, writing and reading in English on a variety of topics. Topics covered will include, but not limited to:

  • Housing — renting and buying
  • Health — medical forms, insurance and questions to ask
  • Employment — applications, resumes and interviews
  • Transportation — commuting in town and traveling

Cost of the class is $100. Preregistration is required, and early enrollment is preferred to ensure minimum enrollment numbers are met in order to avoid unnecessary class cancellation.

The instructor for the class is Jessica Jones, who has more than 10 years of teaching experience. She is employed as an ESL teacher and has worked as an adult ESL volunteer.

For more information or to register, call 309.345.3501, email community@sandburg.edu or visit Sandburg’s Center for Manufacturing Excellence, 2051 Tom L. Wilson Blvd., weekdays from
8 a.m.-4 p.m. Evening enrollment is also available at the CME from 5-6:30 p.m. Jan. 15 and Jan. 23.
