GRINNELL, Iowa – The Midwest Conference honored 1,705 student-athletes from ten member institutions and two affiliates as Academic All-Conference recipients for the 2019-20 academic year, the league announced on Monday.

Representing the league’s eighteen sponsored sports, the MWC Academic All-Conference team features 915 award winners participating in men’s sports and 806 women’s sports participants. This year’s list also recognizes 290 multi-sport athletes, led by 174 women’s multi-sport recipients.

The criteria to be recognized as an Academic All-Conference selection includes having satisfied a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.33, which is calculated only in the awarded academic year. First years, sophomores, juniors, and seniors who letter in any of the MWC’s fall, winter or spring sports are eligible for the award. Additionally, the team for which the student-athlete competes must complete at a minimum 50% of its scheduled events.

In the fall, Knox College finished with 68 student-athletes earning MWC Academic All-Conference. In the winter, Knox earned 44 MWC Academic All-Conference and in the spring, 43 student-athletes were recognized.

Of the 881 student-athletes recognized for fall awards, football led the way with 274. The winter saw 640 honorees with women’s indoor track & field taking the top spot with 179 award winners. Despite an abrupt end to the spring season, it was determined by the league’s governing body that academic all-conference should be awarded to those spring athletes that otherwise would have been eligible. In total 666 awards were presented to spring sport student-athletes with baseball topping the field (193).

MWC Academic All-Conference honorees are announced annually after the conclusion of the posting of spring term grades.
