Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Aug. 29, 2020

Golf

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys golf team hosted a four team meet at Gibson Woods on Friday night. The Titans placed 4th with a team score of 178. Macomb won the meet with a 146. Quincy Notre Dame was 2nd with a team score of 161 and Bloomington Central Catholic had a team total of 172. Braeden Duncan was the meet medalist with a -1 under 34 for Macomb. Also scoring for Macomb was Connor Hamm and Glenn Sutton with a pair of 37’s and Jack Lockard with a 38. Monmouth-Roseville was led by John Juszczyk’s 41. Jimmy Connell and Noah Clark posted 45’s and Jack Thompson scored a 47.

Ridgewood High School’s boys golf team placed 4th at the Geneseo Invitational at Sugar Maple Golf Club on Saturday. The Spartans shot a team total of 339, sixteen strokes behind Invite winner, Quincy. Ridgewood’s Thomas Bumann won individual championship honors with a 1-over par 73. Bumann’s teammates, Ganon Greenmand shot an 81 and Derek Johnson carded an 83 to place in the top-10 individually, as well.

Junior High

The Knoxville, Abingdon-Avon and BPC junior high boys and girls cross country teams all ran in Knoxville on Saturday. On the boy’s side, BPC had 7 of the top 9 times and placed first, with Knoxville in second. Abingdon-Avon’s Carter Stroom was the top finishing boy for the meet. Knoxville’s Levi Pearson placed 4th. Conner Palm for BPC was 2nd. On the girl’s side, Knoxville was first as a team. A-Town was 2nd and BPC was 3rd. Knoxville’s Emmalyn Hensley and Emily King went 1-2 individually. Sophie Kern was 3rd for A-Town. The top finisher for BPC was Natalie Willey in 8th.

The Mercer County Golden Eagle girls softball team split a double header against Kewanee on Saturday. With the split, Mer Co is now (2-2) on the season. Kewanee won game one 8-2, with the Golden Eagles earning the W in game two, 22-10. Natalie Thompson went 4-8 in the two games, getting two rbis and smashing a triple. Madison Baker was 3-5 with a pair of runs driven in for Mercer County, as well. Bella Dillavou was 2-4 with three rbis in the win in the nightcap.
