Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Sept. 3, 2020

Golf

The Galesburg, Macomb and Quincy High School boys golf teams took part in a triangular meet at the Macomb Country Club yesterday. The host Macomb Bombers continued their dominance on the fall season, getting a pair of wins on Macomb senior night. The Bombers shot a team score of 152, with Quincy carding a 173 and Galesburg a 184. Macomb had all four scorers finish with scores under 40, led by Braeden Duncan’s 36. Connor Watson scored a 38, followed by Jack Lockard and Glenn Sutton’s 39’s. Galesburg’s low scorers were Ben Templeton and Carson Hopping with matching 45’s. Jason Runbom had a 46 and John Knapp and Owen Wolfe each tied with 48’s to round out the scoring for the Silver Streaks.

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls were in Quincy at Westview Golf Course yesterday for a dual match. The Streaks fall to Quincy 168-211. No individual scores were given for the match.

Tennis

The Galesburg High School girls tennis team lost to Dunlap, 8-1. Getting the lone victory for Galesburg was Camryn Anderson in #5 singles (6-2, 6-1).

The Macomb Bomber girls defeated United Township 3-2 at Macomb High School. Getting wins for the Bomber were Tali Stone at #2 singles (6-2, 6-0) and the doubles teams of Anne Vana/Sanjana Babu (6-1, 6-0) and Kathleen LaPrad and Olivia Duncan (6-2, 6-1).

Swimming and Diving

The Monmouth-Roseville and Macomb High School girls swimming and diving teams took part in a triangular match at Dunlap. The host Eagles went (2-0), with Macomb going (1-1) and Monmouth-Roseville (0-2). Monmouth-Roseville has eight girls on the squad this season and represented themselves well with many top-2 finishes. Getting wins for Mon-Rose was Abby Sikorski in the 100 yard butterfly and Addie Smith picked up a pair of wins in the 50 yard and 100 yard breaststroke races. Sikorski also took 2nd in the 50 yard butterfly. Also getting 2nd place finishes were Caitlyn Stewart in the 500 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke events. Cally Tate had three, runner up finishes in the 50 backstroke, 500 freestyle and the 100 yard backstroke. Sikorski, Stewart, Smith and Tate all teamed up to touch the wall in 2nd place in the 400 yard freestyle relay race. Macomb got wins from Kathleen Lage in the 50 yard backstroke and Lauren Carson in the 200 yard freestyle.

Junior High

In junior high baseball last night, the ICS Trojans hosted Galva at the Field of Dreams in Monmouth for their 8th grade recognition night. The Trojans evened their overall record to (2-2) with a 12-0, mercy-rule win over the Wildcats. The highlight of the game was a no-hitter thrown by ICS pitcher, David Simmons. Simmons goes all four innings, recording seven strikeouts and only walking two batters. Galva had trouble defensively, totaling eight errors. The Trojans made the most of their five hits, with many of those with runners in scoring position. Nick Huston cracked a double in the game for ICS.

The United Red Storm junior high baseball team remained unbeaten for the fall with an 18-6 win over ROWVA in Alexis. The Red Storm pound out 11 hits in the game. Nolan Jenks went 3-for-3 with four rbis and a triple for United. Pitching-wise, Jenks and Zeke Clark combined to only allow three hits for the game.

The West Central Heat junior high softball team dropped a heart-breaking 4-3 game to Mercer County. Lauren Winters, Miley Stimpson and Ashley Meyer each had two hits apiece for West Central, with Meyer knocking in three runs.

The Heat junior high baseball team lost to Carthage 12-2. Gage Stimpson and Hayden Gugeler had the lone hits for West Central. Stimpson’s hit was a triple.
