Mr. Roy E. Peterson, 95, of Galesburg, Illinois died 5:20 a.m. Monday, August 31, 2020 at Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg. 

Roy was born on November 14, 1924 in Galesburg, the son of Fritz and Anna (Carlson) Peterson.  He married Elaine J. Vogel February 15, 1952.  She preceded him in death in 1977.  He later married Doris M. Gray on January 6, 1979 in Galesburg.  She preceded him in death on March 10, 2004.

He is survived by a son, James L. (and Kelly) Peterson of Ft. Pierce, Florida, a daughter, Carol A. (and Michael) Noll of Galesburg a son-in-law, Charlie Deal of Galesburg, and five grandchildren, Ryan Deal, Lindsay Noll, Connor (and Becca) Deal, Jacob Noll, and Erin (and Eric) Daugherty.  He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Janet Deal, 3 brothers, Carl Peterson, Harold “Elmer” Peterson, and Ted Peterson and a sister, Ruth Kisler. 

Roy graduated from Galesburg High School in 1943.  He served seven years in the United States Air Force during World War II and the Korean War.  Upon returning from the military, he became a specification inspector for the Outboard Marine Company.  He retired in 1983 after 36 years with the company.  He was of the Methodist faith.  Roy, recently lived at Hitchcock apartments where he also went to grade school.  It was a very nice place for him to live.  He enjoyed his beautiful flowers and landscaping that you can see yet today. 

A visitation will be 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, September 11, 2020 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel.  Graveside Services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg.  Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites by the VFW/American Legion Honor Guard.  Memorials may be made to the V.N.A. or the Gordon Behrents Senior Center.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
