Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Sept. 5, 2020

Swimming and Diving

The Monmouth-Roseville girls swim traveled to Peoria Richwoods High School for a 3-team meet against Richwoods and Bloomington Central Catholic. BCC won the meet with Richwoods in 2nd and Monmouth-Roseville in 3rd. Despite having only eight swimmers, the Titans only finished 12 points out of 2nd place. Cally Tate had a fantastic meet, winning the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard backstroke events. She was also second in the 100 yard freestyle. Addie Smith was second in the 200 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke events. Ryley Huston won her first race in her first season of swimming, claiming the 50 yard freestyle JV race.

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls swim was also in action on Saturday. The Streaks were at Sterling High School, where they edged out the Golden Warriors 93-90. Getting wins for Galesburg were Olivia Owen in the 200 yard freestyle and Kylie Tapper in the 100 yard butterfly. Allie Warren was a double winner, touching the wall first in the 100 yard breaststroke and 200 yard IM. Ari Bailey also won the 1 meter diving competition. Warren, Tapper and Owen teamed up with Sophie Lotz to win the 200 yard freestyle relay race.

Cross Country

In High School cross country on Saturday, the Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys and girls took on the Macomb Bombers at Spring Lake Park in Macomb. On the girl’s side, the Bombers get a 18-43 win on the strength of 1-2-3 finishes by Olivia Bishop, Khyliegh Diggs and Sylvia Barcley. Rileigh Ewing was the top finishing Titan in 4th. The Bombers also won the boy’s division 20-41. Macomb’s Stan Melkumian was the individual winner. His teammate, Ben LaPrad was 2nd. Monmouth-Roseville’s Joe Rivera was 3rd and fellow Titan Rafael Tomas Francisco was 5th.

Tennis

The Macomb Bomber girls tennis team lost to both Alleman and Dunlap on Saturday. In the 5-2 loss to Alleman, Macomb had wins at #1 and #2 singles from Madeline MacGregor and Tali Stone, respectively. The Bombers were shut out by Dunlap 7-0.
