City of Galesburg Transit is hosting its first-ever stuff the bus food drive campaign. The event will begin Tuesday, November 3, 2020 and conclude at the end of the day on Tuesday, November 24, 2020. A bus to fill with donations will be parked at the City of Galesburg Transit facility, located at 1025 Monmouth Blvd, from 9 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday, except for November 11, 2020. Please feel free to drop donations off in the office during collection hours.
“The City of Galesburg Transit division is excited to coordinate the Stuff the Bus Food Drive,” said Pamelyn Usher-Miller, Transit Manager. “We hope many members of the community will consider joining us in the effort to help our community members in need.”
According to Feeding America, feedingamerica.org, in Illinois, 1,283,550 people are struggling with hunger and of those struggling, 363,900 are children.
All items donated will be given to the Salvation Army Food Pantry. Due to COVID, there has been an increased number of families coping with the hardships of food insecurity and the Salvation Army needs the help of our community more than ever.
The following items are needed: peanut butter, canned tuna and chicken, pasta, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti sauce, boxed meals, as well as canned vegetables.
Another way to donate is with a monetary donation to a local food pantry. Donations can be made to the Salvation Army at centralusa.salvationarmy.org/Galesburg or the FISH Food pantry at fishofgalesburg.org.
If your family needs assistance, please contact the Salvation Army at 309-342-9168 or FISH Food pantry at 309-343-7807.
