Charles Robert “Chuck” Wessels, 67, died Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 10:11 p.m. at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

Chuck was born December 28, 1953 in Sterling, the son of John Lee and Virginia Florence (Fitzgerald) Wessels.  Chuck graduated from Sterling High School in 1973 and later married Connie Sue Janssen on September 30, 1978 in Sterling.  Chuck is survived by his wife of 42 years, Connie of Galesburg; and their two daughters, Kelli Wessels of Galesburg and Katie (Dustin) Armstrong of Columbia, MO.  Chuck is also survived by four brothers, John (Evelyn) of Dixon, Mike (Pennie) of North Carolina, Tom (Marilyn) of Sterling, and Jim of Rockford; eight sisters, Nancy (Bob) Hill of Rock Falls, Marilyn Bushman of Dixon, Barb Fellows of Sterling, Connie (Ken) McNinch of Indiana, Christy (Carl) Paxton of Sterling, Rosie (William) Wessels of Amboy, Joyce (Matt) Howze of Utah, and Cindy (Mike) Neal of North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Along with his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by one brother, Richard as well as Connie’s parents, Dale and Mary Jane Janssen.

Chuck had a passion for helping people, something he was able to carry into his career at Lowe’s Home Improvement, where he had worked since 1996.  Chuck was quite the handyman and enjoyed helping his neighbors and friends with any home improvement project they were tackling.  He enjoyed spending time outdoors playing bags and horseshoes as well as spending time with their friends.  Chuck and Connie enjoyed spending as much time together and they were always the first to be found on the dance floor.  He was a great teller of stories and jokes.  He loved listening to music and shooting pool.  Chuck was a die-hard Raiders and St. Louis Cardinals fan.  He was also a member of First Lutheran Church, Galesburg. 

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, social distancing, face masks, and limited occupancy will be enforced.  Private family services will be held at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Those wishing to attend virtually may log on to www.watsonthomas.com Friday, February 19, 2021 at 10:30 a.m.  Burial will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg.  Memorial contributions may be made in Chuck’s memory to Relay For Life-SCRUBS Team.  Online expressions of sympathy may be made to the family at www.watsonthomas.com
