Jon Dauma, 73, of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 9:00 p.m., Sunday August 23, 2020 at Harlingen Medical Center, Harlingen, TX. 

He was born on Easter Sunday, April 6, 1947 in Denver, CO, the son of Harley Wayne and Dorothy Verlee (Chambers) Dauma.   Jon was raised and educated in the Monmouth Area.  He graduated from Yorkwood High School.  He then attended a 2-year technical engineer program for the State of Illinois at the University of Illinois in Champaign. 

Jon served in the United States Army, he was an E5 combat engineer during the Vietnam War from 1967-1969. 

Jon married Mary Lou Phelps on July 8,1967, after knowing each other for 2 months before he left for Vietnam. They were happily married for 51 years. 

He worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation for 35 years.  Jon worked for a few contractors after he retired.  He also helped manage the RV Park for 14 years with his wife, Mary. They had been traveling to this park for over 25 years, where he kept a winter home.  He was a member of the Heritage Bible Church, and the Monmouth American Legion.  Jon enjoyed Texas, traveling, reading, cooking and building/fixing things & mostly, spending time with his favorite granddaughter. 

Jon is survived by his daughter, Lisa (AJ Bresnahan) Dauma; granddaughter, Abigail Dauma of Galva, IL; his Mother, Verlee Dauma of Memphis, MO; 2 brothers, Kenneth (Esther) daruma of Kansas City, MO and Steve (Laurie) Dauma of Soap Lake, WA. 

He was preceded in death by his father & his wife. 

A Gathering of Family & Friends will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Saturday, May 22, 2021 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL.  Military Honors will at presented at 3:45 p.m. at the funeral home.  Memorials can be made to the Heritage Bible Church, American Legion Post 136, or Western IL Animal Rescue (WIAR). A small memorial service was held Saturday, May 1,2021 at the First Baptist Church in Memphis, MO by Rev. Dan Hite.
