Stay Safe This Hunting Season

Archery season is underway and firearm season is right around the corner in Illinois. The Galesburg Police Department offers these hunting safety tips:

  • Always check all equipment and stands and use safety belts to prevent falls
  • Be sure the barrel of your gun if clear of any obstructions before shooting and check for bent or broken arrows
  • Treat every firearm as if it is loaded
  • Be sure of your target as well as what is near and beyond
  • Remember to wear blaze orange and if you take a dog with, be sure the dog is also wearing orange; and
  • Bring a well-stocked First Aid kit in case of emergencies
