Monmouth Roseville Varsity Girls Defeat Kewanee 66-23

The Kewanee Boilermakers invaded the Shoebox Monday night for girls basketball action. In the JV game the Titans won 48-41. In the opening quarter the Titans were on their game with defensive pressure and solid offensive execution. Mia Reylnolds had a solid first with 10 points and 5 rebound to pace a 17-5 opening quarter lead. The second quarter both teams struggled with their offensive play as Kewanee would outscore the Titans 4-3 to cut their halftime deficit to 20-9. The Titans came out of the locker room with a quick 13-0 run to open up a 33-9 advantage. Mia Reynolds had 4 in the quarter and the Titans led 38-13 after three. But the Boilermakers came to life in the fourth as they began the quarter with a 14-0 run to cut it to 38-27 before a Tatianna Talivaa basket ended the Boiler run. Talivaa would score 9 in the fourth quarter including 3 free throws to help the Titans hold off the spirited Kewanee comeback. Leading the Titans was Tatianna Talivaa with 17 followed by Mia Reynolds with 14. Also scoring was Meyah Hunter with 5, Merideth Gonzalez 4, Molly McVey and Coraima Izquierdo with 3 each and Ady Schisler adding 2.

In Varsity action the Titans pounced on the Boilermakers early and ran away with a 66-23 victory. The Titans ran out to a quick lead and behind 4 points from Matty Gillen and 4 points and 9 rebounds from Brianna Woodard the hi ome team led 17-1 after one. Gillen, Woodard and Malia Killey all scored 4 points in the second quarter and the Titans led at the half 32-10. The Titans kept on rolling in the third outscoring the Boilermakers 20-6 behind 6 from Woodard and the lead was 52-16 after three. The fourth quarter saw lots of action as each team was substituting freely throughout. Leading the Titans was Brianna Woodard with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Mattie Gillen added 16, while Tatianna Taliviaa, Malia Killey and Lexi Finnicum all had 6. Mariah Reading had 5, McKinley Rexroat 4, Belle Thompson and Meyah Hunter 2 each. The Titans will host Rockridge Thursday night in a huge conference battle.
