Pokey LaFarge Returns to the Orpheum Theatre Stage

Share

Last October, Pokey LaFarge performed a solo show at The Orpheum Theatre, and this time he is returning to the stage with his full band!  The group will bring the house down on Friday, August 26 at 7:30pm.

Originally hailing from Bloomington IL, Pokey LaFarge’s music style is excitingly unique: a cross between old-fashioned blues, vintage country, and retro rock ‘n roll. At times LaFarge’s sound is even reminiscent of the ragtime swing you might have heard through a phonograph in the 1920s. But his new album, In the Blossom of Their Shade, has been dubbed “the perfect summer afternoon soundtrack.”

Stuck in East Austin during the pandemic with nowhere to go, LaFarge did what he does best: he got to work. Inspired by the deep soul not just from his homeland, but from distant geographical places like Africa or South America LaFarge set out to create a body of work that paired emotional lyrics with a killer groove and grabby melodies. Unlike its melancholy predecessor, In the Blossom of Their Shade showcases the positivity of coming out of the darkness and into the light. The Record was nearly entitled Siesta Love since it captures the thematic notion of being the perfect summer afternoon soundtrack… the type of music you want to listen to while having a cocktail with your significant other. You can’t keep a great songwriter idle.
