Over the three-day Halfway to Freezing for Food event, $8,000 in cash donations was collected and taken right into Save A Lot to purchase food for the Roseville Helping Hands Food Pantry and the Jamieson Community Center. With the very rapid increase of visits at the food pantries, Essential Goods Manager at Jamieson, Christa Millard, shares the food from the event will span about a month:
“The family needs have increased so much. I think with kids being out of school, the families are coming in more to make sure that they have proper meals for the kids during the day while the parents are working. It was worrying me, but when I walked into the pantry after we got the second load of food and I was like ‘thank you, thank you’ I can make it to the end of the month now.”
In May, Jamieson Community Center had 461 visits to the food pantry.
