Target is making some changes to its self-checkout policy. The retailer announced its putting a cap on the number of items shoppers can have at self-checkout, a move that has “plenty of justification,” according to marketing professor Mike Porter. He says some people don’t like self check-out and will appreciate the new item limits. Target says it wants to speed up the process by limiting shoppers at self-checkout to ten items. More lanes that are staffed with employees will be opening up to help those who have fuller carts. The “Express Self-Checkout” lanes will hit most target stores on Sunday. Porter says this decision could be related to store theft, although Target didn’t say that was a reason for the change.
