“When I started in this business with my father, we did funerals and visitations and gatherings almost all the time, now that has totally changed in the customs and society. I guess at 75, I have been a first responder for over 50 years, its’ now time for me to slow down a little bit. My family has done this for over 140 years. In Biggsville I have the Heritage Museum. My plan is to move the museum into Monmouth, and I will be the manager, the operator, of the Turnbull Heritage Museum. It will let me go places and see my family and have a little more time for myself. The other thing that is happening is I built a funeral home in Oquawka in memory of my father, David, since 1991. That is going to remain a funeral home. My friend Mark Thomas, from Watson-Thomas in Galesburg, is buying that facility from me and he is going to be the management, and I will work for him.”

John is the fourth generation of the Turnbull family to operate Turnbull Funeral Homes.
