On August 30, 2025, deputies with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a stabbing at A-Town Gas, 401 N. Monroe Street, Abingdon, Illinois. Upon arrival, deputies located an injured male who was transported for emergency medical treatment.
The suspect, George A. Hamblen (DOB: 02/11/1979), was identified as the individual responsible. Surveillance footage and multiple witness statements confirmed Hamblen’s involvement.
Following the investigation, Hamblen was arrested on the following charges:
– Aggravated Battery/Great Bodily Harm (Class 3 Felony)
– Aggravated Battery/Deadly Weapon (Class 3 Felony)
– Aggravated Battery/Public Place (Class 3 Felony)
Hamblen was transported to the Knox County Jail pending further court proceedings.
Additionally, Jacob A. Smith (DOB: 11/13/2002) was arrested on a warrant issued in connection with the same incident. Smith was charged with:
– Aggravated Battery/Physically Handicapped Individual (Class 3 Felony)
– Aggravated Battery/Public Place (Class 3 Felony)
– Possession of Methamphetamine (<5 grams) (Class 3 Felony)
Smith was transported to the Knox County Jail where he is being held without pretrial release conditions.
The case remains under active investigation and is being reviewed for the possible involvement of additional suspects.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
