The season opens with the luscious and dramatic music of the Romantic Era of orchestra music. Two Germanic composers will fill this program with large-scale works that pushed the musical envelope during the 1800s. Emilie Mayer, born 11 years before Johannes Brahms, follows in the tradition of Beethoven with her Symphony No. 1 in C minor. At the same time, Brahms struggles and ultimately breaks the mold in his Piano Concerto No. 1 in D minor–both works ending in unbridled jubilation! Witness the Knox-Galesburg Symphony explore two emotionally evocative masterpieces, with beloved pianist Lorraine Min returning to the Orpheum Theatre stage in Galesburg. This promises to be a journey of intrigue and emotional depth. This concert is sponsored, in part, by The City of Galesburg, The Galesburg Community Foundation, Blick Art Materials, Illinois Art Council, the Mark & Celia Godsil Family Donor Advised Fund, and Mr. Eugene Belz.
