Thompson Tallies 14 Kills in CSC Volleyball Sweep of Kishwaukee

The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team picked up its second sweep in as many days with a 25-16-25-7, 25-11 victory over Kishwaukee on Wednesday.

The Chargers (4-5, 1-1) had little trouble against the Kougars (0-7, 0-2) in picking up their first Arrowhead Conference win of the season.

Freshman Hannah Thompson (Blandinsville, Ill./West Prairie) had a team-leading 14 kills for Sandburg on just 19 attempts, good for a dazzling .684 kill percentage. Other kill leaders for the Chargers were Josalyn Owens (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln) with six and Sam Mayberry (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) with five.

Setters Emma Derry (Augusta, Ill./Southeastern) and Camerin Huizenga (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) had 19 and 10 assists, respectively, for Sandburg. Sophomore libero Adre Vetter (Emden, Ill./Hartsburg-Emden) had a team-high 17 digs along with four of the Chargers’ nine aces on the night.

The Chargers are in conference action again at 6 p.m. Tuesday when they host Illinois Valley at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
