Volleyball
IHSA Volleyball Regional Championship games will be played around our area this evening. Let’s take a look at who will by playing in them. Starting in Class 1A at the Wethersfield final in Kewanee, the (34-0) Wethersfield Flying Geese take on their Lincoln Trail Conference rivals, the (14-17) Annawan Bravettes. Also in 1A at the West Prairie Regional in Sciota, the defending 1A state champ West Prairie Cyclones, at (26-10) on the season, will face-off with traditionally tough (21-13) Southeastern. Prairieland Conference member (27-6) Lewistown will battle top-seed (30-6) Hartsburg-Emden in Lewistown and another Lincoln Trail Conference member, Princeville will take on LaMoille/Ohio in Princeville.
Switching over to Class 2A, the (28-7) United Red Storm will play for a regional championship in Biggsville against (16-13) Farmington. In Knoxville, the (22-11-1) host Blue Bullets will play West Central Conference member (17-18) Illini West. Three Rivers Conference members will go at it in Sherrard as (17-12) Rockridge battles (21-10-4) Riverdale and in Bureau Valley, (30-5) Orion plays (18-11-1) Bureau Valley.
In the Class 3A Regional championship at Monmouth-Roseville High School, (22-12) Peoria Notre Dame plays another team from Peoria, (18-14-2) Richwoods.
There are two Western Big Six Conference teams still alive in Class 4A, (27-8) Quincy matches up with (26-5) Edwardsville in Quincy and (27-7-1) Moline battles (30-5) Normal Community High School in Ottawa.
Tumbling
The Maple City Tumblers took part in their first event of the season in Woodhull on Sunday. There were a total of 14 teams at the competition. Getting top-2 places in the tumbling division for Maple City included Makayla St. George getting first in the Beginner 10 year old category, Tessa Klein earning a 2nd place in the Advanced Beginner 9 year olds, Madilynn Gracey won the Sub-Novice 8 year old category. In the Double Mini division, Kenna Tatman was 2nd in the Beginner 5 year old group, Raine Weyant was 2nd in the Beginner 6 year olds, Jenna Bewley won the Beginner 7 year old category, Skyler Toops was 2nd in the Beginner 9 year olds and Kiley Davis and Makayla St. George tied for 1st in the Beginner 10 year olds. Madilynn Gracey was first in the Intermediate 8 year olds and Harlee Hainds was 2nd in the Intermediate 11 year olds. The next meet will be in Rock Island on November 12th.
