United School District 304 held a school board meeting last Thursday, Nov. 9th. Superintendent Jeff Whitsitt touched on some repairs and issues that need addressed in the coming months.
“Our architect was at our meeting and presented an update to our 10-year life safety survey. We should be getting an official survey back in maybe December or January. We’ll have some big decisions to make when that comes back around,” he said.
Among the projects that United will be looking to address in coming years are the HVAC statuses of district buildings, the roof at the old gym at the high school, and a number of paving issues around the district. Whitsitt acknowledges the costs of keeping buildings up-to-date, but it’s a necessary evil.
“Owning buildings and opening buildings for business – there’s a cost involved in that. We’ve got to maintain them. It will be a scary number. It will be a large number that will be thrown at us during the survey, but again, it’s 10 years. This only happens every 10 years,” Whitsitt said.
