Are the Smoke Detectors in Your Home Functioning Properly?

With a recent string of structure fires in the local area, three located within the city limits of Monmouth and one in Cameron, Monmouth Fire Assistant Chief Craig Cozadd reminds homeowners to take advantage of the free installation of smoke detectors in homes:

“We can’t stress enough fire safety. Smoke detectors, obviously, are the first priority. Again, we do offer those in the City, to homeowners in the City, that need them. We will put them in for them. We offer that service. Some of these houses we have been too, they don’t have detectors, we go in and they are not going off, we know they are not in there. In the City, there is no reason not to have them as we offer that. Anybody can call us at the station, 734-8428, and we will set up a time to come put them in.”

According to First Alert, smoke detectors should be replaced at least every ten years and tested regularly to ensure the alarm is functioning properly.
