The United School District has officially approved its budget for the 2027 fiscal year.
Superintendent Tom Hawkins says the district remains in a stable financial position, but rising costs continue to be something the district has to watch closely.
“The board adopted the budget with no problems. The budget is always your best guess, especially in a school situation. You’re dealing with whether or not people are going to pay their taxes, whether or not you’re going to get what you ask for, as well as you got to negotiate the prices that are going on out there. Some of our prices, as crazy as they are for the regular consumer they are just as crazy for schools.”
Hawkins says the district is experiencing some slight deficit spending in its education fund, while transportation costs, including fuel, continue to be one of the biggest challenges.
