The Monmouth College volleyball team is headed to the Midwest Conference Tournament after closing out conference play with back-to-back wins over Lake Forest and Beloit.
The Fighting Scots defeated Lake Forest in four sets Friday before sweeping Beloit Saturday, finishing with a 6-3 conference record. Monmouth College Sports Information Director Nathan Baliva says despite the strong finish, the Scots came up just short of hosting a tournament game.
“They swept Beloit on Saturday. We had already clinched a spot, had a chance to get a home game as the four seed, but ended up in a three-way tie with Grinnell and Illinois College. Unfortunately, we were the third team in that three-way tie, so we’ll be the five going to Jacksonville.”
Monmouth earned the number five seed and will travel to Jacksonville Tuesday, November 10th, to face fourth-seeded Illinois College at 7 p.m. The winner advances to Friday’s semifinals against top-seeded Cornell.
The Scots will wrap up their regular season tonight, hosting Blackburn College at 7 p.m. for Senior Night.
