Girls Basketball
The big game around the area last night was also in the Lincoln Trail Conference. The Class 1A, top-ranked and undefeated Annawan Bravettes hosted the Princeville Lady Princes last night in game that could go a long way towards a conference title. The Bravettes get a 61-46 victory to get their 39th straight win and improve to (4-0) in the Lincoln Trail. They are (18-0) overall this season. Arizona State recruit, Jayde VanHyfte led all scorers with 27 points. She also hauled in 12 rebounds. Princeville falls to (17-3) and (3-1). They were led by Caitlyn Pullen’s 23 points, including making seven, 3-pointers.
Elsewhere, it was Wethersfield over Stark County 60-39 and Knoxville blows out North Fulton in the Prairieland Conference 69-39, behind 16 points from Lauren Kavanaugh.
The Galesburg Silver Streak girls basketball team hosted Dunlap in a non-conference game at John Theil Gym last night. The Streaks lose to the Eagles 59-51. Galesburg led at the half 28-23 and were tied at 40 heading to the final quarter but were outscored 18-11 in that final period. Dunlap went 9-for-11 from the foul line over the final eight minutes. Andrea Sampson and Kelsi Legge lead Galesburg in scoring with 15 and 13 points respectively. Galesburg is now (9-10) overall, while the Eagles improve to (12-4). The Silver Streak sophomores also lost 49-44. Riley Jenkins led Galesburg with 12 points.
Junior High
The Monmouth-Roseville Jr. High basketball teams traveled to Rockridge Monday night in Prairieland Conference play. The 7th grade Titans fell 38-37 to the Rockets. Max Cole led Monmouth-Roseville with 13 points. The 8th grade Titans fell 29-22. Ben Anderson led the Titans with 10.
The United Red Storm headed to Stark County for a pair of boys basketball games. The Red Storm swept the Rebels. The 7th grade was victorious 28-25 behind Able Wilson’s 15 points. The 8th grade also won 36-31. Nolan Leffler led United with 23 points.
Youth Basketball
The Monmouth-Roseville 6th grade girls basketball Shooting Stars split two games over the weekend, beating Farmington 19-12 and losing a nailbiter to ROWVA 32-30. Against Farmington, Natalie Boyd led the Stars with 6 points and Elise Blaesing chipped in with 4. The Stars then battled back and forth with ROWVA and had a chance to tie with under 10 seconds left, but came up short in the 32-30 loss. Eight of ten Stars scored, with Natalie Boyd reaching double figures with 10.
