Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Mar. 5th, 2018

Music

The Monmouth-Roseville High School chorus department won their sixth straight IHSA Class B vocal state championship on Saturday as they competed at Monmouth-Roseville High School. They garnered a maximum score of 252 to edge out Rockridge High School by 15 points. Monmouth-Roseville also had a top-10 finish in the orchestra category with a 7th place and finished 8th in the state in the band category. They are currently in 3rd place in the overall standings with the organizational competition coming up in April to decide the overall music winner. Other area schools participated at Monmouth-Roseville High School on Saturday including United High School who had top-10 finishes in two of the three divisions in Class C. United was 2nd in band and 5th in orchestra. They also placed 25th in the vocal competition. United sits in 4th place overall heading to the organizational competition later in the school year.

Track and Field

The Galesburg High School boys and girls indoor track and field teams were in action over the weekend. The Silver Streak girls were in Bloomington for the Lady Raider Indoor Invitational on Saturday. Individually for Galesburg, Tegan Rehn placed 2nd in the 60 meter hurdle race. Hannah Huppenbauer was also second in the high jump. Sydney Boyd placed fourth in the triple jump. In the relays, Lexi Herr, Emma St. George, Emma Hawkinson and Grace Palmer placed second in the 4X800 relay. The Galesburg boys were in Champaign on Saturday for the First to the Finish Invite. Galesburg’s Quantrell Polk placed 6th in the long jump and triple jump events.

Junior High

The Monmouth Roseville 8th grade volleyball team opened up postseason play on Saturday by upsetting higher seeded Mercer County in 3 games 25-22, 16-25, and 25-18 in the Class 3A United Jr. High regionals. Megan Noel led Monmouth-Roseville with 4 Aces and 10 service points. Karleigh Ashby also had 3 Aces and 6 service points and Cristina Dilley contributed six service points. Dilley and Ashby each had 2 kills and 3 digs. Rileigh Ewing handed out 5 assists. The Lady Titans will now face Knoxville tomorrow night at 6:15 at United Junior High in the 3A semifinals. Knoxville defeated United on Saturday in two sets, 25-14, 25-19. The other semi-final tomorrow night pits Rockridge vs. Sherrard at 5:30. The regional championship match is scheduled for Wednesday night at 6:00 at United Jr. High.

The ICS Trojan 8th graders open up their regional at ICS jr high 1A regional tomorrow might against LaHarpe at 5:30 at ICS Jr. High. London Mills will battle Cuba in the second match of the night at 6:30. The championship match is scheduled for Wednesday night at 5:30

The (21-0) ICS 7th grade volleyball team will take the court tonight in Williamsfield in a sectional match against (13-4) Peoria Limestone Walters. The winner will move on to the 1A state finals this weekend in Assumption.
