Stone Hayes Center for Independent Living in Galesburg is in need of personal assistants in Warren and Henderson counties. Lynn Voeller with the organization says now is the time to get involved if you want to make a difference, with trainings running through June.
“My main thing is – you have to have the heart for this. You have to have the want to help because that’s what it takes to be a good personal assistant. I can’t stress enough the importance of this job. Without somebody having a personal assistant, they could be living in a nursing home,” she said.
Personal assistants help people with everyday tasks they may not be able to perform on their own such as cooking, cleaning, shopping, getting out of bed, etc. Trainees must undergo a background check and one-day training course before their name will be added to an employment registry.
Trainings will be held the last week of each month until June. The next available training session is Mar. 29. Those interested should call Stone Hayes at 309-344-1306 to learn more.
