The Warren County Special Olympics held their “Change for Champions” fundraiser last week, which asks volunteers to stand outside local businesses, handing out candy, and collecting change. A new record was set for money raised according to Jennifer Davis.
“That was a huge success. We set a new record by $200 this year, so we’re extremely grateful for all of our volunteers that helped participate in Candy Days this year,” she said.
The organization is gearing up for the Region F Spring Games on May 5 at Sunnylane Field. The need for volunteers is high according to Davis, with positions ranging from timers, to scorekeepers, to concession stand workers, still open. 2018 marks the 50th Anniversary of Special Olympics – giving this year’s event that much more significance.
“We have over 300 athletes participating this year, and that’s quite a bit more than what we have had in past years, so we really could use volunteer support. We could also use fans in the stands cheering on everybody. If you have an hour or so, just come out and experience it,” Davis stated.
The Spring Games will start at 10 a.m. with opening ceremonies. Events will run until about 3:30 p.m.
