MONMOUTH, Ill. – Grant Myers (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) and Connor McDonald (Tremont, Ill./Tremont) helped the Monmouth College baseball team to a 4-2 week and earned the Midwest Conference Performers of the Week honors for their efforts.
Named the Position Player of the Week, Myers was on fire last week, assaulting opposing pitchers with four home runs, 14 RBIs, 25 total bases and a 1.000 slugging percentage while going 10-for-25 (.400) at the plate. The senior slugger jacked three home runs on the final day of the MWC Crossover, two in Sunday’s opener against Ripon. He added a three-run jack in the late game to help push Monmouth to a mercy rule win. Myers opened the week with a 3-for-6 performance with a triple and three RBIs against Grinnell and stroked a grand slam in the nightcap as Monmouth swept the Pioneers in Grinnell. Myers is one triple shy of the Scots’ career record.
A wellness administration major, Myers is the son of Troy and Nena Myers.
McDonald, the Pitcher of the Week, was nothing short of amazing in two appearances – both wins – last week. The junior hurler tossed seven innings of six-hit ball in Monmouth’s 6-1 win over Grinnell last Tuesday, twice working out of two-on, two-out jams. McDonald then worked six innings of a seven inning win over Lawrence in the Scots’ MWC Crossover finale on Sunday. McDonald fanned six, including recording the first five outs via strike outs. For the week McDonald posted a 0.69 ERA over 13 innings, fanning nine, issuing just three walks and scattering 12 hits while surrendering just one earned run.
An economics and business major, McDonald is the son of Marlon and Sheryl McDonald.
