Softball
The Galesburg Silver Streak softball team got their postseason off to a great start last night as they welcomed Richwoods to Galesburg High School for a Class 3A Dunlap quarterfinal matchup. Being the higher seeded of the two teams, the Streaks got to host the first round contest. Already leading 5-0 heading to the bottom of the 3rd inning, Galesburg exploded for nine runs to put the game away early, going on for a 15-0 win in four innings. Kaitlyn Pendergast and Lauren Campbell each had a pair of hits. Pendergast had a double and two rbis. Also driving in two runs was Andrea Sampson and Rylee Neal. Emily Blucker and Gabbi Diaz combine for the pitching victory, with Blucker getting the official win. The Streaks improve to (13-18) on the season and will now play Peoria Notre Dame today at 4:30 at Dunlap High School in the first semi-final of the night. Rock Island Alleman and the host Eagles will play in the second semi at 6:30. The championship will take place on Saturday morning at 11:00.
Also in regional softball last night, the Rock Island Lady Rocks shutout Quincy 10-0 in the Moline Class 4A Regional semi-finals. The Rocks will play the winner of today’s Moline/United Township matchup on Saturday morning at Moline High School.
Pekin knocked out United Township’s baseball team in the Class 4A Normal Community Regional. The Panthers fall 9-0. Elsewhere, Moline beats Danville in the Danville 4A regional semis.
In the Class 1A softball sectional hosted by Abingdon-Avon High School, the Lewistown Indians beat Putnam County 4-2 to send themselves to the sectional championship on Saturday morning at 11:00. Sydney Shaeffer went 2-for-2 with a home run for the Lewistown, who will take on the winner of tonight’s game between Princeville and North Fulton.
Staying in Class 1A, the Camp Point Central softball team trailed North Green 1-0 heading into their final at-bat in the Springfield sectionals. The Panthers get a bases-loaded rbi single from Mady Webster to walk-off a 2-1 win. Jacey Nall gets the pitching win, going 7 innings, giving up 1 run on five hits. She struck out 13 batters and walked two.
In Class 2A, Rockridge kept their train rolling along with a 9-0 win over Beardstown in the Farmington Sectional semi-finals. The Rockets will play the winner of tonight’s Illini West/Brimfield-Elmwood matchup on Saturday at Farmington High School.
