M-R's Educational Offerings Continue to Expand

Monmouth-Roseville Superintendent Ed Fletcher highlighted two significant educational approvals with two area colleges from Tuesday night’s school board meeting – one for students and one for staff. The first being the Walter & Rose Sampson Promise Program through Carl Sandburg College. Fletcher explains:

“It’s a really great opportunity for our kids who would say, ‘Well, I can’t go to college because I don’t have any money.’ This is a great opportunity to either go for free or for a much, much, much reduced cost and still get an associate’s degree,” Fletcher stated.

The program will start on May 1, 2019, and will be available to Monmouth-Roseville, United, and homeschooled students in those districts.

The second program that Superintendent Fletcher shared details on was a partnership with Western Illinois University that will allow M-R to offer the six courses needed to receive an English as a Second Language Endorsement to area teachers.

In addition, Fletcher announced a sharp decrease in school registration fees in the district for the 2018-19 school year.

“We’ll look at Lincoln, Harding, and Central; we’ll go from $75 to $15. The junior high, we go from $97 to $30. And the high school we go from $132 to $50,” he said.

The district will also freeze fees for extra-curricular activities for the upcoming school year.
