Here’s your local high school Athletes of the Week for the week ending May 22nd:

Your Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is junior baseball player, Rylan Heinrich. With his team trailing West Hancock 4-2 in the bottom of the 5th inning in the regional semi-finals, Rylan blasted a 3-run home run to give the Titans a lead they would not relinquish. He helped send Monmouth-Roseville to the 2A regional championship game.

Your United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is sophomore long distance runner, Cade Whitsitt. Cade nearly qualified himself for the Class 1A state finals with his performance at the Knoxville Sectionals. His time of 2:09.41 was good enough for 5th place overall. That time was just 5 seconds from moving on to Charleston.

Your West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is junior track and field athlete, Luke Ditsworth. Luke will compete in two events at the Class 1A State championships in Charleston this weekend. He placed 2nd in the 100 and 200 meter dashes at the Knoxville Sectionals. Luke nearly went in four events, as he placed 3rd in the long jump and 5th in the triple jump.

Your A-Town Tornado Athlete of the Week is junior softball player, Kayleigh Sebben (SEE-bun). Kayleigh went 2-for-3 in the final game of the season in a loss in the Illini Bluffs regional championship game against North Fulton. She led her team in batting average, hits, runs scored and on-base-percentage for the season.

Your Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is sophomore softball player, Emily Blucker. As the postseason draws near, Emily seems to be peaking at the right time. In her last 21 innings in the pitching circle, she has given up just 2 earned runs. During that span, Emily has struck out 26 batters, while walking only two.

Congrats to all of these student-athletes!! Thanks to our AOTW sponsors, MC Sport and More, McDonough Telephone Cooperative (mdtc), Tompkins State Bank, Yemm Chevrolet Buick GMC Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram!!!!
