Monmouth Fire & Police Reports for May

The Monmouth Fire Department shared their May Monthly Report at the City of Monmouth’s latest city council meeting on Monday night. Some notable statistics from the month included five fires responded to and 86 rescue and emergency medical service calls taken. The five fires are significant because the Department as a whole responded to just 14 year-to-date fires.

The staff also completed Rescue Awareness training last month. When emergency medical personnel are called to a scene for an injury or illness, the responders need to be aware that a rescue may be needed prior to or in conjunction with the treatment of the patient. Most of the time the need for rescue is apparent but occasionally the responders are presented with situations when a need for rescue might not be obvious. The training covered different scenarios and signs for when a rescue is needed.

Additionally, firefighters received training on hazardous materials and opioid overdose awareness.

The May Monthly Report for the Monmouth Police Department featured 97 arrests – an increase of 39 arrests from last May. 1,520 calls for service were made to the Department during the month which was a 112-call decline from May 2017.

All MPD officers completed Narcan training in May, and each officer now will carry a Naxolone kit. In addition, IPRF Grant monies for MPD were used to purchase 14 outer vest carriers that the officers will begin wearing. The vest carrier will allow officers to insert special threat plates into the vest if needed during an incident. The vest carriers will also allow officers to get some equipment off their duty belt. The vest carriers should start being worn by officers in July.
