M-R Principal Bradford Talks Registration and More

Registration at Monmouth-Roseville High School is going on now. New student registration will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 8, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Registration for returning students is the following day, Aug. 9, at the same time.

Along with the beginning of a new school year, M-R is adding new measures to help freshmen acclimate themselves into their new environment – starting with freshmen only day on Aug. 22. Principal William Bradford explains.

“We’ve looked at the social and emotional issues that a lot of our freshmen have. We all remember going into the high school – whether it was in one building collectively or coming from Monmouth-Roseville like I had to go to a different high school that was different from my elementary – and the nervousness and the anxiety that these young people are going to be facing when they come in through these doors,” he said.

In addition to the freshmen only day, each freshmen will be assigned a freshman advocate. Each staff member at the high school will act as a guide at the school for three separate freshmen, looking out for them, giving them advice, etc.

These changes at Monmouth-Roseville are necessary in the eyes of Bradford.

“Students are looking for a way to become part of a community or part of a school, and it’s all about building relationships. Because if you don’t feel safe, you don’t feel secure, you don’t feel loved, you won’t attend school or you won’t do well in school,” Bradford stated.
