Warren County United Way, The Warren County Housing Authority, FamilyWize and Walgreens Collaborate to Encourage Preventive Measures to Protect Against Influenza
BETHLEHEM, Pa./Warren County, Illinois, September 4, 2018 — FamilyWize Community Service Partnership, together with Warren County United Way, the Warren County Housing Authority, Walgreens, the Department of Health and Human Services, are providing a series of community health clinic events at no cost to make flu vaccination more accessible in underserved communities throughout the country. These organizations are working together to help deliver flu vaccines for uninsured and underinsured residents, and encourage preventive measures heading into the winter months and the peak of flu season.
Free flu vaccine vouchers donated by Walgreens and the Department of Health and Human Services will be provided at Oak Terrace Community Room, September 27, 2018 from 2-6 p.m. This is open to the public. No ID or insurance information is necessary.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends a yearly flu vaccination for anyone six months of age and older to help protect against the seasonal flu epidemic. December through March is peak season for flu activity and individuals are urged to take preventative measures to keep themselves and those around them healthy.
From 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Oak Terrace, 2000 West Harlem, Monmouth, Walgreens will be administering free flu vaccines for all those who qualify for a flu vaccine voucher. The vouchers are available on a first come, first served basis, while supplies last and are provided by Walgreens as part of a nationwide program that helps to make flu vaccines available to those without health insurance coverage or are unable to afford a flu vaccination.
In addition to getting your flu vaccine, FamilyWize offers the following tips to help prevent the flu:
1. Clean Your Hands: Wash your hands as often and thoroughly as possible with soap and water. If soap is not available use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
2. Stay Home: Avoid leaving your home for school, work, and errands when you are sick. Experts recommend you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone.
3. Avoid Close Contact: Do your best to avoid close contact with people who are sick. You should also avoid close contact with others when you are sick.
4. Avoid Touching Your Eyes, Nose, or Mouth: Viruses often spread when a person touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth after exposure to the virus. Cover your mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing.
5. Keep Your Surroundings Clean: Clean and disinfect anything that may be contaminated with germs.
“At FamilyWize, we care about Americans affording what they need to stay healthy. Whether it’s prescription medications or preventive vaccines, our mission is to support the communities we serve and make a happy, healthy life accessible,” said Joseph Sanginiti, President and CEO of FamilyWize.
