Blingo Event & 'Watch Dogs' at M-R

The Monmouth-Roseville Education Foundation will host their Blingo event at the VFW in Monmouth over the weekend. The event is a fundraiser for teacher grants and College for Kids Scholarships. Jeff Ewing, Principal at Harding Elementary School, shares more on the teacher grants:

“Teacher grants are essential. A lot of teachers spend their own money, out of their own pockets to get items for their classrooms that they want and need. The Education Foundation does a fantastic job of awarding grants to teachers to buy things for different programs, for technology, different seating that teachers want. Just things that teachers would like that they put enough of their money for it and they don’t really want to put their money for it,” Ewing shares.

Co-President of the Monmouth Education Foundation, Amanda Pilgar, shared the proceeds were able to offer scholarships for ten students to attend College for Kids last summer.

The Monmouth-Roseville School District has launched a new program called ‘Watch Dogs’. This program allows dads to be more involved in the school settings at Lincoln, Harding, and Central. Jeff Ewing, Principal at Harding Elementary, shares more details:

“This program is really, really neat for students who do not have a father figure or male figures in their life. Watch Dogs can come in anytime they want. As long as they go through the background check and stuff like that. They come in and can hang out in P.E. with their students, they can come listen to their students read or other students read, they can come have lunch with the kids. They can go to recess with kids. We open the doors for them so they can come in and just hang out with the kids,” Ewing states.

This program is funded through the Monmouth-Roseville Education Foundation.
