MONMOUTH, Ill. – Breaking a Monmouth football record held by an NFL quarterback has earned the Scots’ Hayden Nelson (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) the Midwest Conference Offensive Performer of the Week honor.
Nelson broke former Scot and now NFL quarterback Alex Tanney’s long standing touchdown record to lead Monmouth to a 49-0 win over Lawrence last Saturday. The senior QB passed for a Scots’ single-game record seven touchdowns to break the previous mark of six set most recently in 2009. The TD passes accounted for all of Monmouth’s touchdowns on the day as Nelson completed 17 of 28 passes with one interception for 197 yards and an astronomical pass efficiency rating of 195.2. For the season, Nelson has passed for 549 yards and 10 TDs with a 123.59 efficiency rating.
