Golf

The United Red Storm girls golf team claimed the Class 1A Mercer County regional championship. The Red Storm shot a team score of 401 to beat out the host Golden Eagles by 12 strokes at Mer Co’s own home course of Hawthorne Ridge Golf Course in Aledo. United’s Erin Glisan placed 2nd individually with a 93. Glisan was joined in the top-10 by Paige McKeown, who tied for 3rd with a 96. Emily Grodjesk and Haley Marshall both tied for 10th, each carding an 18-hole score of 106. Rockridge will join United and Mercer County at the Pontiac Sectional on Monday at the Pontiac Elks Golf Course. Sherrard’s Nikki Schmitt is your individual champ with an 84. Knoxville was 9th as a team and was led by Kyli Luptak’s 13th place finish of 108. That score will send her to the Pontiac Sectional as an individual as well. Kaci Luptak shot a 116 to place her in 24th. West Central had a pair of golfers take part. Mikayla Lange carded a 127 for 33rd and Emma Keever shot a 135 to tie her for 41st.

At the Galva Class 1A regional at Oak Run Golf Course in Dahinda, Geneseo, Putnam County and Princeton will advance to Pontiac as teams. Galva’s Elizabeth Whitford will go to the sectional meet as an individual. Whitford shot a 95 to place her in 16th.

Galesburg High School senior girls golfer, Kirsten Osborn claimed the regional individual championship yesterday at the Pekin Class 2A regional at Lick Creek Golf Course. The Silver Streak girls golf team will all advance to sectional play as they place 3rd as a team. Galesburg shot a team score of 413. Quincy is the regional team champ with a 344. Osborn carded a 76 to win by six shots. Her teammates Kaylee Allen and Halle Majdich were also in the top-20 with scores of 102 and 110. Kelsi Kleine was the 4th score with a 125.

Volleyball

The two undefeated volleyball teams in the Lincoln Trail Conference remained that way after getting victories last night. The United Red Storm are (6-0) in the LTC now after their 25-16, 25-16 home win over Princeville, who fell to (5-2) in league play. Jerzi Johnson led the Red Storm with five kills and four blocks. Carly Thompson also had five kills, Josie Bentz made 11 digs, Riley Tyrrell gave out 10 assists for United.

The other undefeated team in the Lincoln Trail, the Wethersfield Flying Geese, also got a win over Galva by scores of 25-4, 25-14. The Geese are also (6-0). United and Wethersfield will play a week from today at United High School.

The West Central Heat are (5-2) in the conference after their 25-18, 25-22 win over ROWVA in Biggsville. Corinne Booton had 15 kills to lead the Heat. Mady Reed had five digs and Jessica Smith handed out 15 assists for West Central. ROWVA was led by Taylor Main with two kills and three blocks. Kelsey Lindquist and Sarah Hennenfent made seven digs.

Also, Mercer County beat Ridgewood 25-20, 25-13. Kendall Lewis had six kills and four digs to lead Ridgewood. Jenna Stromquist added five digs and Alli Lambin dished out eight assists for the Spartans.

In the West Central Conference, QND went to (3-0) in the conference after beating Macomb in three sets, 20-25, 25-12, 25-20. Avery Rexroat had 18 assists, Jocelyn Buchannan smashed 10 kills and Maggie Vallillo hustled her way to nine digs for Macomb. QND only has a match against Monmouth-Roseville next Thursday in Monmouth left on their WCC schedule. With the addition of Quincy Notre Dame to the West Central Conference, the conference schedule has been shortened to the 5 WCC schools only playing each other once, instead of twice.
