Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Oct. 10th, 2018

Volleyball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titans were on the road against their West Central Conference North Division rivals, the Macomb Bombers. The Titans get their 20th win on the season and remain undefeated in divisional play with a 25-22, 25-22 victory. Ryley Huston served for 11 points to lead Monmouth-Roseville. Delaney Woodard handed out 12 assists. Camryn Jones smashed eight kills and led in digs as well with eight. Jocelyn Buchannan had ten kills and nine digs to lead Macomb. Avery Rexroat dished out 24 assists for the Bombers as well. The Titans are now (20-7) overall and (2-0) in the North Division. They will take on Quincy Notre Dame in Quincy tomorrow night. Should the Titans win that match up and then defeat Camp Point Central on the 18th, they will take the WCC North Division title. If QND wins the match, they will lock up the North Division championship with a (4-0) record.

The United Red Storm will have a huge contest tomorrow as well. The Red Storm beat Mercer County 25-17, 25-15 last night in Lincoln Trail Conference action. United is now (21-6) on the year and still perfect in the LTC at (7-0). For the Red Storm, Carly Thompson had 12 kills and two aces. Jenna Bentz handed out 13 assists, while Breanna Shea hustled her way to 16 digs.

Wethersfield kept pace with United at (7-0) in league play after the Flying Geese 25-12, 25-13 win over Stark County. United will host Wethersfield at the Fieldhouse at United High School tomorrow night. The varsity match will begin at around 7:00. The two schools will each have two matches left after their meeting but the winner will have an enormous leg up on the conference championship.

In other LTC matches last night, West Central was a 3-set winner over Williamsfield. Corinne Booton had 12 kills to lead the Heat in that stat category. Megan Schaley had three blocks and nine digs for West Central as well. The Heat are (6-2) in the Lincoln Trail.

Annawan gets a 25-16, 25-9 win over Galva and is just behind the two conference leaders at (6-1). Finally, it was ROWVA over Ridgewood in three sets. Jenna Stromquist had 14 points, Kendall Lewis had eight kills and Alli Lambin handed out 16 assists to Ridgewood. ROWVA was led by Sarah Hennenfent’s 12 digs and four assists.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks stepped out of Western Big Six Conference play to take on Peoria Notre Dame in Peoria. Despite dropping the first set 22-25, the Streaks come back and win the next two 26-24, 25-21 to get the victory and improve their overall record to (11-13). Kylie Fike had 11 kills and eight blocks for Galesburg. Maddie Carlson totaled 14 assists and Sam Rogers had a nice night as well with 17 digs in the win. PND won both the freshman and sophomore matches. Lauren Livingston led Galesburg in the sophomore match with six kills. Lily Hudgins handed out seven assists and Makayla Huff had eight digs for the Silver Streaks.

Havana beat BPC 25-11, 25-23 and Lewistown defeated West Prairie 25-18, 25-12 in Prairieland Conference action.

Soccer

The Macomb Bombers soccer season came to an end last night after losing 2-0 to Quincy Notre Dame in Carlinville.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Jr. High football teams traveled to Rockridge Jr. High for a pair of games in the Prairieland Conference. The 7th grade Titans fell behind 20-0 in the first half before eventually losing 38-20 to the Rockets. Rhett Willett scored on a 52 yard touchdown run and then Jaylen Tutt hit the end zone on a 70 yard interception return and and 85 yard kickoff return. The 8th grade Titans tried to salvage a split on the night but were shutout 20-0. The Rockridge 8th grade team finished the season at (5-0) in the Prairieland Conference, claiming the conference title in the process.
