Local High School and Junior High Sports Update on Oct. 5th, 2018

Volleyball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titans hosted Southeastern at the Shoebox at Monmouth-Roseville High School for a non-conference match up. The Titans beat the Suns in straight sets, 27-25, 25-23 to improve to (19-6) overall on season. Carly Gillen smashed 14 kills and also had double digit digs with 10. Delaney Woodard handed out 14 assists and served three aces. Mackenzie Connell served for six points and had 12 assists as well for Monmouth-Roseville.

Also in non-conference action, West Central defeat North Fulton 25-22, 25-18. Corinne Booton had eight kills and six digs to lead the Heat. Megan Schaley had seven digs and Jessica Smith dished out 10 assists for West Central.

In Prairieland Conference cross-division play, it was Illini West over the A-Town Tornadoes 25-21, 25-16. The Tornadoes fall to (5-12) with the loss. Payton Florine had six kills, Tori Adolphson handed out nine assists and Charli Johnson had 13 digs, all for A-Town. Illini West is now (19-6) on the year.

In a Prairieland Conference South Division contest, Lewistown beat Bushnell-Prairie City 25-8, 25-8.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks fall to Rock Island in a Western Big Six Conference match up in three sets, 26-24, 14-25, 22-25. Kylie Fike had nine kills and Maddie Carlson handed out 13 assists for Galeburg. Sam Rogers and Brynn Atwell tied for the team lead in digs with seven. Galesburg dips to (10-13) overall and (2-5) in the Big Six Conference. The Silver Streak freshman and sophomore teams split with the Rocks in the night’s first two matches. The freshman lose to Rock Island in three sets, while the Streak sophomores get a three set victory. Lauren Livingston led Galesburg with nine kills. Lily Hudgins had 22 assists and Alexis Hankins totaled ten digs.

In other volleyball action last night, Brimfield beat South Fulton 25-10, 25-12.

Cross Country

The Lincoln Trail Conference held their conference championship meet at Kewanee Dunes Golf Course in Kewanee. The Mid County Cougars claimed the boys team title, while Stark County took the girls team crown. Individually on the boys side, Mid County’s Caelin Foley crossed the finish line first. United’s Jacob Dutton was 41st. Stark County’s Olivia Frail is the individual girl’s winner. United’s Anne Gregory is an all-conference runner with her 5th place finish. Natalie Gillette was 15th as well for United and Danielle Bowling was 23rd.

Tennis

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls tennis team was shutout by United Township 5-0 last night in the Quad Cities.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan 7th grade girls basketball team defeated United 33-21. Leading scorers for the Titans were Elise Blaesing and Gracie Oma with 6 points. The 8th grade Titans completed a sweep on the night over the Red Storm, winning 38-27. Nyota Feza lead the team with 9pts with Addisyn Switzer adding 8pts.

The West Central Heat Jr. High football team beat Ridgewood 40-0. Kaiden Droste scored four touchdowns for the Heat. Landon Winters caught a touchdown pass as well for West Central. Jimmy Stevenson and Parker Meldrum had two point conversions for West Central as well.

The Galesburg Junior High School eighth grade football team fell to Moline Wilson 34-14. Jon Sibley ran for a touchdown and Mikey Eiker found Nolan Carl for a TD pass to lead the Silver Streaks.

The Churchill Junior High School seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams split games with Sherrard on Thursday. The 7th grade Blue Streaks remained unbeaten at (8-0) with a 42-21 win. Kiarra Kilgore led Churchill with 24 points and Addy McLaughlin chipped in with 10. The 8th grade Blue Streaks lost 46-12 to Sherrard. Jaidyn Strong and Olivia Wilder each had four points for Churchill.
