The blizzard in the Midwest reeked its havoc on our local area Sunday into Monday evening. Thousands of residents including business were without power in Warren, Knox and Henry counties and forced area deputies off the roads due to zero visibility. Travelers were stuck throughout the area in heavy wet snow and 45-50 mile per wind gusts throughout the blizzard. Area highways and roads (are still) — were impassable leaving many people unable to travel to or from work due to the storm. Area businesses are (were) closed including financial institutions, convenience stores, the Warren County Courthouse and others who were affected by power outages or travel conditions.
At times on Sunday and throughout Monday, travel was restricted per the Warren County Sheriff’s office and the IL State Police. Record Snowfall amounts of between 7.5 to 14 inches were reported throughout the area and thousands of flights were cancelled at the airports.
The City of Monmouth would appreciate residents to refrain from parking on the street tonight into tomorrow morning as the plows will be replowing at 10pm.
