United School District Update

The United School Board met earlier this week and the main discussion of the meeting was the tax levy and the districts life safety amendments. Superintendent Jeff Whitsitt has more:

We approved a tentative Tax Levy. We are projecting a five and a half increase in our EAV and we will be requesting an extension $8.5 million in tax proceeds for the district. It is a little up from where we were last year and that can change through December. We also have the issue of the Life Safety Amendments going forward to address. We have done all the grunt work to issue some bonds to issue for the Life Safety projects. We approved a hearing for next month for the safety bonds, which total $6.5 million and will be used for roof work, HVAC, and more security for the doors,” shares Whitsitt.

Whitsitt also stated the district received their audit back from the state and their financial profile was in good shape with the state.

The district is in the final stages of constructing a new bus facility and will be accepting bids starting on the 20th.

For the future, Whitsitt says the district has plans for an auditorium at the high school.
