United School District Update

Share

The United School Board met earlier this week and the main items on the agenda were bonds and the 10 year Life Safety Survey. Superintendent Jeff Whitsitt has details:

“We had a representative from First Mid-State come up and talk to us about a bond issue, which was approved. We had a 10 Year Life Safety Survey approved last fall and now we are starting to schedule and figure out how to do the work. It just costs money and for us to save up to get it done that timeline does not work. We have to get those things done so we have the best opportunities and best facilities for our kids. We issued a little over 6.5 million worth of life safety bonds and added on about 1.5 million in working cash bonds. The life safety bonds were for those projects noted in the 10 year survey that the architect said you have a timeline you need to get these things done,” states Whitsitt.

Items on the itinerary for the summer are to update the HVAC system at the West Campus and some minor roofing projects at the High School.

In the future, the district is looking to add an auditorium at the High School.
