James E. Haynes, 89, of Oneida, Illinois died 10:43 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. 

He was born December 5, 1929 in Maquon, Illinois to Harry and Gladys (McWilliams) Haynes.  He married Betty Jean Olson December 18, 1949 in Galesburg.  His wife of 54 years, preceded him in death June 2, 2004. 

James is survived by a son, Gary (and Sylvia) Haynes of Oneida; a daughter, Carol (and Dave) Miller of Shawnee, Kansas; a brother, Paul Haynes of Galesburg; two sisters, Alice (and Leon) Uhlmann of Galesburg and Mary Ponce of Utah; four grandchildren; Jim (and Jamie) Haynes of Oneida, Amber (and Casey) Erlacher of Oneida, Sasha (and Brent) Schippers of Anthem, Arizona and Andrew (and Maria) Cutright of Hays, Kansas; and eleven great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gene Haynes, and two sisters, Laura Price and Ellen Mae Haynes. 

James was a farmer in the Oneida area for 45 years and retired in 1992.  He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1947.  He was a member of United Church of Oneida.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Lions Club in Oneida.  He was a Board Member of the former Farmer’s Co-op in Oneida.  He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, fishing and watching the Chicago Cubs. 

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2019 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel.  Rev. Frank Langholf will officiate.  Burial will be in Oneida Cemetery, Oneida, Illinois.  Visitation will be 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2019 at the chapel.  Memorials may be made to the Wataga Seniors or United Church of Oneida.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com
