Bridgeway and Carl Sandburg College are cosponsoring the Discover Wellness Summit on Friday, April 26 at the Carl Sandburg College campus from 8:30 am to four pm. the Summit will include two keynote speakers. Kevin Hines, director of the documentary “Suicide: the Ripple Effect” will speak in the afternoon and Ian Shea, who is the founder of the program “I am Human”, will speak in the morning. Vice President of Behavioral Health Services at Bridgeway, Stacy Brown, talks about the impact of Hines’ documentary and the importance of talking about mental illness:

“People have said that parts of it were very dark, and parts are dark, because suicide is a very dark topic, but I think it is something that we need to talk about. And I think him [Hines] telling his personal story allows people to really kind of say, ‘I know someone or that’s happened to me or somebody in my family,’ and that’s where we need to start. Because if we continue the way we are and not talk about it, then it’s only going to get worse.”

The Discover Wellness Summit is free and open to the public, with seating capacity limited to 300 people. Bridgeway will be releasing an app soon with more information on the Summit.
